2014 Audi R8 to lose manual gearbox
It’s reported that the new Audi R8 – due in 2104 after a facelift in 2012 – will lose the manual gearbox option. It’s at least two years before the next generation Audi R8 arrives in 2014, but if reports from CAR are right then Audi’s next sporting flagship will do without a manual gearbox altogether. With all that’s on offer in the current R8 apart from the manual ‘box being the rather poor R-Tronic ‘box, that may seem like a recipe for sales disaster for the R8.
Volkswagen has started the tease for the Mk 7 Golf R with the new Golf R hidden in a block of ice as a ‘Frozen Beast’ ahead of a Geneva 2013 debut. Now that Volkswagen has the Mk7 Golf in the wild – and the MK 7 VW GTi too – they’re ready to turn the wick up to 11 with the launch of the MK 7 Golf R – or at least the concept version – at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Mazda Europe has a new design director. Effective 1 September, Kevin Rice will succeed Peter Birtwhistle, who retires from the post of chief designer, bringing to an end a 26-year career with Mazda. Following graduation from Coventry University's transport design course, Rice, 50, began his professional career at Opel in 1986.
